Floormaster Yorkshire, based in Barnsley, has secured grant funding to invest in solar panels that will generate more than 70 percent of the energy it requires. Thanks to a grant from the Net Zero Barnsley programme, in partnership with Barnsley Council and delivered by The Business Village, the company has installed 36 panels on the roof of its warehouse in Barugh Green. This investment will not only help reduce carbon emissions by 80 percent but also cut energy bills in half.
According to OPs Manager Daniel Deacey, the decision to install solar panels was a logical one, as they own the warehouse and its roof. The grant support was crucial for this small business to afford the PV system, which is expected to significantly lower monthly energy bills. The 15.3kWp PV system is projected to generate renewable energy, save more than £3,500 a year on energy bills, and pay for itself in just three and a half years. Over the system’s lifetime, it is estimated to produce 303,975 kWh of clean energy and reduce CO2 emissions by 58.78 tonnes.
