According to Pip Wilkins, CEO of the British Franchise Association (bfa), attending a franchise exhibition is the best way to understand the franchising industry. The industry has experienced continued growth for over 20 years, generating a £17.2 billion turnover in 2018. Despite this, most people in the UK associate franchising with fast-food chains, failing to recognize the diversity of businesses and opportunities available. False information can often mislead people within and outside of the industry, which is why attending a franchise exhibition is crucial. Only bfa members and bfa accredited stalls are allowed to exhibit, ensuring ethical franchising and the provision of accurate information. Duncan Cameron, a former sales manager, benefited from attending a franchise exhibition and hearing from a franchisee. This led him to become a Right at Home franchisee, which has been immensely rewarding. Exhibitions also give prospective franchisees a chance to talk to franchise professionals for free, attend free seminars, gain new insights, and ask questions to franchisors and franchisees.
