Scott Fletcher MBE, the founder and former chair of technology company ANS Group, has been honored with a Doctor of Business Administration honoris causa by University of Salford Business School. Born and raised in East Manchester, Fletcher has made immense contributions to the technology and business fields. Furthermore, he has given back to the local Greater Manchester community, promoting and providing apprenticeships for young people, and helping to close the UK’s tech skills gap.
Fletcher’s entrepreneurial journey began at the Salford University Business Park, where he started his first tech company, ANS Group, at the age of 22 from his bedroom. This venture was sold to private equity in 2021 for over £200 million. He is also the chairman of Godel Technologies, another successful technology company with a significant presence in Manchester and Poland.
As Fletcher says, “To be awarded an honorary degree in the city I started my career decades ago is incredibly humbling. Salford has come a long way since I first started out here, the city is flourishing and it’s great to have been a part of this journey.” In 2014, Fletcher also received an MBE from Her Majesty the Queen for his services to business and the community in the North West.
Fletcher’s philanthropic efforts include hands-on support for local causes, as well as charitable contributions. He has also served on the Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership board, working to drive investment and growth in the region.
Dr. Francine Morris, Associate Dean for Enterprise and Engagement at Salford Business School, describes Fletcher as “one of the UK’s greatest successes in the industry,” and his journey from East Manchester to a leading figure in the technology sector is truly remarkable. Despite his great success, Fletcher continues to remain grounded, committed to charity and helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds have successful careers through apprenticeships.
In all, Scott Fletcher’s story is one of resilience, innovation, and generosity, and an inspiration to us all.
