Grants of up to £35,000 are available in the second round of funding to support businesses and organizations in revitalizing empty shops in the Fargate area of Sheffield. This initiative aims to contribute to the ongoing transformation work happening in the area.
The transformation and regeneration of Fargate are central to Sheffield City Council’s plans to transform the city center into a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant area. Cllr Ben Miskell, chair of the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Policy Committee, emphasized the importance of continuing the vibrancy of Fargate through regeneration initiatives like the ReNew project.
He stated, “With so many exciting businesses in the city, some just starting out and others keen to expand, it is critical we work with them to inject new life into the area. We are looking for businesses to be creative in their ideas and take advantage of this opportunity to try something new, expand, or relocate to a central location.”
During the first round of ReNew funding, businesses like Juno Books successfully launched their brand-new shop in Chapel Walk. Owners Sarah and Rosie expressed their gratitude for the support received, which helped them create a warm and inviting retail space.
Another beneficiary of the ReNew funding, Game Show All-Stars, was able to bring their venue in Orchard Square to life with the grant. Director Hannah highlighted the importance of the financial support in realizing their vision and creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for guests.
These improvements and grants are made possible through the £15.8m Future High Streets Fund, which the Council secured in 2021.
