Construction professionals have commenced work on the development of new energy-efficient council homes in Mansfield. Once finished, this modern neighborhood will feature 22 properties, including various sized semi-detached and detached houses, all designated for council tenants in need of housing. Mayor Andy Abrahams highlighted the environmental benefits of these new homes, emphasizing the importance of reducing electricity and heating costs for residents.
In addition to the housing development, the Bellamy estate is undergoing a revitalization project, including new shops, roads, and green spaces. The regeneration initiative, led by building contractor Mercer, aims to stimulate economic growth within the local community. Mayor Abrahams also noted the project’s commitment to social value, with the majority of workers coming from within a 20-mile radius of Mansfield.
With a projected cost of £7.7 million, the Bellamy regeneration scheme is scheduled for completion next year. The project began over a year ago with the construction of a play park and cycling track. Mercer, selected through a competitive tender process, is collaborating closely with the council to ensure that the new homes meet the Future Homes Standard, guaranteeing low carbon emissions and high energy efficiency.
Fraser Mercer, Director at Mercer Building Solutions, expressed enthusiasm for the project and praised the collaboration between his team and the council’s architects. As construction progresses, they are focused on meeting and exceeding energy-efficiency standards for each property.
