Derby businesses are being urged to take advantage of grants and support available through the Derby Accelerator project, a program that has proven beneficial for the city’s business community. Since its inception last year, the project has assisted over 370 businesses with adviser support, resulting in 25 grant applications and 19 businesses receiving growth vouchers. These efforts are anticipated to lead to the creation of 50 new jobs and the preservation of 19 existing positions.
Funded by the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the Derby Accelerator project comprises five key components. These include the Start-up Accelerator, Net Zero Accelerator, Digital High Street Accelerator, Innovation Accelerator, and Financial Accelerator, each offering specialized support to businesses at different stages of growth.
According to Diane Beresford, Deputy Chief Executive of East Midlands Chamber, businesses have already begun reaping the benefits of the project through access to funding and expert advice. She emphasized the importance of businesses reaching out to the Chamber to explore potential projects before the project’s conclusion in 2025.
Councillor Nadine Peatfield, Leader of Derby City Council and Portfolio Holder for City Centre, Regeneration, Culture, and Tourism, stressed the significance of securing funding for business growth and success. She highlighted the project as a valuable resource for local businesses looking to innovate, expand, and thrive, ultimately contributing to the economic prosperity of the city.
