GSSArchitecture, a renowned architecture practice, has recently appointed Jonathan Hunter as senior partner, succeeding Tom Lyons who retired in June. Jonathan has been a valuable member of GSS for over 23 years, originally joining as a graduate architectural technologist in 2001. Through his dedication and talent, he quickly climbed the ranks to become an associate in 2007 and a partner in 2010.
Jonathan has played a pivotal role in driving the growth of the practice in recent years. By cultivating long-term relationships with key clients in Yorkshire and the Northeast, he has significantly expanded the firm’s presence in these regions. In 2009, Jonathan’s vision led to the establishment of a Yorkshire office, followed by opening a Newcastle studio in 2016, further solidifying the practice’s reputation and reach.
Under Jonathan’s leadership, both studios have flourished, with the Yorkshire team relocating to central Leeds and the Newcastle team moving to larger premises to accommodate their expanding operations. His expertise has also been instrumental in delivering major projects such as the Catalyst at Newcastle Helix and the groundbreaking £500m Health Innovation Neighborhood initiative in partnership with Newcastle University and Genr8/Kajima JV.
As the new senior partner, Jonathan is committed to driving national growth by leveraging his technical prowess and wide-ranging experience across different sectors. Working closely with Ian Bray, who remains as the practice’s managing partner, Jonathan will steer the strategic direction of all six office locations and uphold GSSArchitecture’s legacy of delivering top-notch, sustainable architecture solutions to clients.
Ian Bray emphasized the importance of a seamless transition post Tom’s retirement, expressing full confidence in Jonathan’s ability to lead the practice into the future. Jonathan, in turn, expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunities ahead, highlighting the dedication and creativity of the GSS team as essential components of their success. Taking on this new role is a privilege for Jonathan, and he is determined to uphold the practice’s standards and represent the team with excellence during his tenure.
