Vin Murria OBE, the founder of Advanced Computer Software plc, has been awarded the Top Asian in UK Tech 2024 by diversity charity, Diversity UK. The award was presented as part of its Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech list and the Asian Tech Pioneers index. Diversity UK Chair of the judging panel, Lopa Patel MBE, presented the award at the launch of the list’s 10th-anniversary edition.
Murria’s career has spanned 20 years of M&A activity in the software sector and includes experience in venture capital, private equity, CEO and operational roles. Murria was previously the CEO of Advanced, which Vista Private Equity acquired for around $1 billion in 2015. She is also the founding CEO of Computer Software Group plc, which was bought by equity vehicle Hellman Friedman for circa $800m in July 2007. Murria was COO at Kewill Systems plc before its exit in March 2000 at a market valuation of $1.8bn. She currently serves as a non-executive director at Softcat plc and Bunzl plc, advisor and investor at Hg Capital and NM Rothschilds.
Murria was awarded an honorary doctorate from Edinburgh Napier University and received an OBE in 2018. Her OBE was awarded for her contribution to the British digital economy and advancing women in the software sector. She also founded a charitable foundation in 2007 aimed at educating and supporting women in India and the UK.
Patel praised Murria’s achievements, stating that she is one of the original tech pioneers in the UK. With a BSc Honours degree in Computer Science and an MBA, Murria built her tech company for over a decade then dedicated 20 years to M&A activity in the software sector. Patel described Murria as a trailblazer for women in FTSE companies, the AIM market and entrepreneurship. Patel also noted Murria’s charitable foundation, where she helps educate and support women in the UK and India. Murria is a role model for women worldwide and an inspirational Chair’s Award recipient.
