Leicestershire-based IMA Architects has been chosen by discount supermarket Lidl GB to provide architectural services and guidance on the construction of two new Regional Distribution Centres (RDCs) in Gildersome, Leeds and Belvedere, London. In the realm of logistical warehousing architecture, IMA has collaborated with Lidl GB since 2012 and has now been engaged on 10 RDC projects for the company.
In Belvedere, IMA is collaborating with Lidl to reconstruct and enlarge a 36,825m2 RDC. The firm has been tasked with managing the RDC from the construction phase to its completion. Managing Director of IMA Architects, Anthony Day, remarked, “Work is progressing well, and we are thrilled to be spearheading another large-scale initiative for Lidl GB. The RDC will be a crucial component of Lidl’s distribution network in the south-east upon its completion, catering to both refrigerated and ambient food storage.”
In Leeds, IMA, acting on behalf of Lidl GB, developed the architectural designs and planning packs for the RDC submission to Leeds City Council. The plans have received approval and will witness the establishment of a 54,000m2 distribution centre on a 34.6-acre site in the southwest of the city, with convenient access to the M621 and M62 motorways. Upon completion, the new RDC in Leeds will generate approximately 400 job opportunities for local residents. This move is part of the retailer’s substantial investment initiative to bolster its store network and fuel local economic progress.
Managing Director of IMA Architects, Anthony Day, expressed pride in collaborating with Lidl GB on both ventures and advancing their progress. IMA is presently engaged in over 20 logistics and warehousing projects nationwide, cultivating new business premises and employment prospects for communities. Lidl GB’s Construction Director, Mario Viduka, affirmed, “Our broad warehouse schemes underscore our dedication to enhancing not only our distribution network but also the UK as a whole. We eagerly anticipate expanding our capacity with the assistance of IMA Architects.”
