The ongoing development of Cleethorpes’ Pier Gardens is progressing smoothly as main contractors are currently being consulted on the project. This standard procedure, known as the ‘Preliminary Market Consultation’, is a crucial step for public sector organizations before releasing full tenders for significant contracts. Interested businesses have the opportunity to review project details and provide feedback through online questionnaires and an upcoming physical event scheduled for Thursday, September 12th at The Knoll in Cleethorpes.
Subsequently, officials will carefully assess the responses, opinions, and viewpoints to finalize project details and release the main tender for the principal contractor’s work, expected to take place later this year. Supported by £18.4 million from the Levelling Up Fund (LUF), the Pier Gardens renovation project has incorporated feedback from numerous public engagements, meetings, and consultations to enhance the overall design. Features such as modern and wildlife-friendly planting schemes, dedicated areas for social activities, and improved lighting have been prioritized based on public input.
The finalized design, created by landscape architects WSP, includes specific zoned areas with water play features, terraced play structures, and flexible event spaces for various age groups. North East Lincolnshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage, and the Visitor Economy, Cllr Hayden Dawkins, expressed excitement about the project’s potential to enhance Cleethorpes as a prominent coastal destination. The revitalization of Pier Gardens is anticipated to provide visitors and locals with quality recreational spaces, encouraging community engagement and enjoyment. “This transformation of Pier Gardens is going to create wonderful spaces for both visitors and local people to visit and enjoy – spending time together as families, and we all look forward to this work starting, and more importantly completing,” Dawkins stated.
