Saltaire-based furniture design and production business Plaey has recently been awarded a grant from the Shipley Towns Fund. The grant, totaling £2,055.60, has enabled Plaey to purchase a CNC machine, streamlining the production process and enhancing efficiency. Matt Kelly, the designer and maker behind Plaey, expressed gratitude for the funding, emphasizing the machine’s role in boosting productivity and competitiveness.
“Investing in this new equipment is key to our future growth and local economic impact,” said Matt. “It allows us to tackle larger projects, such as designing a new gallery space in the Lake District, with innovative modular designs.”
Bradford Council has also provided support to Plaey, offering guidance on staff recruitment to facilitate business expansion. Alex Ross Shaw, the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Transport, and Planning, commended Plaey’s contributions to the district and encouraged other businesses to explore funding opportunities and support services available.
Chair of the Shipley Towns Fund, Adan Clerkin, highlighted the positive impact of the funding on local businesses, noting the creation of new job opportunities and business growth. Grants ranging from £1,500 to £315,000 are still open for businesses within the Shipley Towns Fund area, providing a valuable opportunity for expansion and development. Businesses are encouraged to apply for funding and support to contribute to the thriving business community in the region.
