Investments totaling millions of pounds in Long Eaton are yielding positive results for both residents and businesses. Thanks to the Long Eaton Town Deal projects, which received a government grant of £25 million in 2021, development initiatives are progressing smoothly and several have already been completed.
Recently, new lighting has been installed at West Park, illuminating an additional 1.2 kilometers of pathway with 42 low-energy lampposts. Furthermore, construction has commenced on the park’s events field, set to become a premier venue for open-air concerts and outdoor events. In January, work will commence on a striking new bridge spanning the canal from Broad Street to the park, creating an inviting waterfront space for leisure and relaxation.
The design of a new bridge at the former Britannia Mills is nearing completion and is expected to contribute to an enhanced walking and cycling network. Planning permission is anticipated to be granted in September, with construction set to begin in March. Additionally, efforts are ongoing to repurpose listed outbuildings at Long Eaton Town Hall into a modern business hub, featuring managed workspace units for local enterprises.
Erewash Borough Council has acquired all properties at Galaxy Row, including a former cinema, and is currently seeking a development partner to kickstart an exciting new project. This venture will introduce new commercial spaces and residential units to the area, further enhancing the local landscape.
Richard Ledger, chair of the Long Eaton Town Deal Board, expressed his enthusiasm for the progress made on these significant projects, noting the culmination of years of meticulous planning. Councillor James Dawson, vice chair of the Town Board, emphasized the Town Deal’s commitment to revitalizing the town and enhancing amenities for residents, promising continued updates throughout the process.
Despite design modifications, a High Street revitalization project overseen by Derbyshire County Council has been delayed, with a revised completion target of October 2026.
