Armsons Barlow, a Derby-based company specializing in project management, construction cost consulting, and building surveying, has successfully completed a project in Swadlincote, South Derbyshire. This initiative was carried out on behalf of the South Derbyshire District Council as part of the town’s extensive regeneration efforts. The project involved the demolition and clearance of various abandoned structures, including Banks House and Bretby View.

Under the direction of the main contractor, Cawarden, the team efficiently stripped the site, removed all concrete obstructions, and constructed a new car park complete with drainage systems, kerb lines, retaining walls, access points, and landscaping features. The newly created car park spans over 2,000m², offering 54 parking spaces, including eight EV charging points. Notably, three of these charging points are designed with extra width for wheelchair accessibility, contributing to the town center’s parking convenience and local economic activity.

Additionally, a “pocket park” has been established within the area, featuring a granite path leading to a circular seating area and lined with over 200 native copper beech trees. This green space provides a tranquil setting for both residents and visitors to enjoy.

Armsons Barlow collaborated with structural and civil engineers from ABA Consulting Engineers, principal designers from CJ Consilium Ltd, and main contractors from Cawarden to ensure the project’s successful completion. Sally Walters, director of Armsons Barlow, expressed her satisfaction with the project, emphasizing its dual benefits of providing essential parking solutions and enhancing the town’s aesthetic appeal through sustainable development practices.

“We are delighted to have completed this significant project in Swadlincote, which not only provides essential parking facilities but also enhances the landscape of the town with the addition of attractive green spaces,” said Sally Walters. “The successful delivery of this project reinforces our commitment to supporting local communities through sustainable development.”
