Nearly 100 projects have been granted funding totaling £32m from the UK government in an effort to encourage groundbreaking work in artificial intelligence (AI) and increase productivity in multiple sectors including public services, administration and driving efficiencies. The initiatives, led by over 200 businesses and research organizations across the country from Northern Ireland to Southampton, will cover a range of areas such as electric vehicles, safety on construction sites and decreasing emissions across supply chains.

Cambridge-based Monumo and its partners received £750,152 to develop eco-friendly designs for electric vehicles, hoping to improve sustainability across multiple sectors including commercial transportation, flight and power generation. Monumo has recently raised £10.5m in seed funding from various angel investors and CEO and founder Dominic Vergine expressed his commitment to environmental sustainability.

V-Lab Ltd received £165,006 for their system that offers immersive, scenario-based virtual construction site simulations. It will efficiently train workers on site and directly improve the UK’s infrastructure development. Medical suppliers, such as Nottingham-based Anteam, will also be supported with new financial investments by the government to develop more efficient medical supply deliveries.

Hack Partners will lead a development project that will monitor, manage and find flaws in rail infrastructure across the country, remarkably improving the safety, infrastructure maintenance, and efficiency of railways.

Winning teams will collaborate to develop their solutions and deliver the cost-cutting efficiency benefits across the UK that the UKRI Technology Missions Fund aims to provide. Additionally, access to training and scientific expertise, expert AI advisors, and closer collaboration between businesses and developers will be available. AI applications and the pursuit of future technologies will be the driving force behind productivity and growth across economic sectors as the government aims to support innovation in the UK.
