BusinessCloud is announcing the commencement of their search to find the North’s most exceptional leaders. Following a decisive election win, Labour has already met with regional mayors, signalling a probable devolution of power from Westminster to the North. In attendance at the meeting was Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, who implored Sir Keir Starmer to commit to the Northern Powerhouse. With a greater emphasis on the North, BusinessCloud is embarking on a quest to find the individuals who have created, and continue to create, significant positive changes in the region.
The Northern Leaders list primarily targets the business world but may also include figures from the voluntary, sports, and political sectors. Nominations are invited from across the North of England, from Liverpool to Hull, Carlisle to Crewe, Manchester to Leeds, York to Sheffield, Newcastle to Sunderland, Blackpool to Chester, and everything in between. An expert panel of judges will assist BusinessCloud in compiling a definitive list of Northern Leaders, although the precise number of names on the roster is yet to be confirmed.
BusinessCloud’s Executive Editor, Chris Maguire, stated that the launch of Northern Leaders 2024 is as a result of the late Sir Howard Bernstein’s inspiration. The former CEO of Manchester City Council passed away last month at 73 and is widely considered to be the catalyst of Manchester’s regeneration. He was a quintessential leader who prioritized place over politics and public good over personal gain. Northern Leaders 2024 is an opportunity to honor individuals who share his passion for improving the North.
Nominations for Northern Leaders 2024 must be submitted via email to Chris Maguire by July 31st. The award seeks to recognize the achievements of exceptional leaders in the North, including those who have not received the recognition they deserve.
